An access log is a detailed list of all the files that were accessed by the guests of a given Internet site. Any file which was requested in some way shall be listed, so if you have only one page with three embedded images, one video and one embedded text file, as an illustration, the access log shall contain a total of 6 entries - one for each of the six files which were accessed when the visitor opened the webpage. A log usually shows the file name and path, the date, plus the visitor’s OS, worldwide web browser and IP address. Oftentimes you may also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your site. The info which an access log file includes is in human-readable plain text format. It can also be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to prepare reports on the functionality of a site, in addition to the web stats which your server may have generated.
Access Log Manager in Shared Hosting
Our custom Hepsia Control Panel has a section focused on various logs and the access logs are among them. As you sign in to your shared hosting account and take a look at this section, you shall find a list of all the domains and subdomains which you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to press a button that will be available next to each and every domain/subdomain. When the option is active, you will see a download link along with the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your PC and view it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect right away, so if you no longer need one, you could stop it with just a mouse click from the very same section of the CP. You shall still have the ability to access the already developed content by simply clicking on the Download link.
